There’s a reason why this clifftop resort & spa has won a string of acclaimed travel awards. Every aspect of the Karma Kandara Bali experience, is engineered to make your stay luxuriously relaxing from beginning to end. Upon arriving at the sweeping circular driveway, you are greeted by professional, friendly staff. They guide you to a seat, where a refresher towel and delicious welcome drink are presented to you. All the while the front desk staff are busily checking you in. There is a sense of efficiency and attentiveness from the staff. You realise from the moment you arrive at Karma Kandara Bali that you will be well attended to here.
Once checked in, you climb onto the back of a Karma Kandara buggy and hitch a ride to your villa door. Many of the best resorts we’ve stayed at in Mexico and Thailand have this feature. It’s these little touches that add to the overall positive experience. If you need to get anywhere within the resort, it’s simply a quick phone call and before you know it, a buggy is at your doorstep.
The meandering roads in the resort pass by colourful villa doors and white wash stone walls. They travel up steep hills and over a lily pond bridge. The drivers are all expert maneuverers, but some of them may have thought they were racing car drivers, so be sure to hold on. We loved it when the drivers went fast. We found it exhilarating. However, there was a mother and son in our buggy that completely freaked out. I think they decided to walk everywhere after that ride..
The restaurant, Di Mare, is a whole nother level. When you enter the restaurant, you see an expansive open platform with high ceiling and white tables and chairs. The clifftop view, overlooking the Indian Ocean, is out of this world. It resembles a mirage. On the lower level, you see the iconic Karma Kandara infinity pool with the unmistakable “K” written into the tiles. It’s hard to resist a quick photoshoot on the pool edge!
If you thought the view was good, wait til you try Di Mare’s fine-dining menu. The Mediterranean flavours and immaculate presentation of their dishes is all class. Its easy to see why they’ve won so many awards! If you don’t get a chance to try their fine-dining menu, then don’t worry because breakfast is served every morning at Di Mare, where you’ll get to try their perfect eggs and delectable pancakes.
The rooftop restaurant, Temple Lounge, offers a more relaxed and ambient atmosphere. The colour scheme and menu have a distinct middle eastern flavour. It’s a space guests can relax, unwind and soak up the view. The perfect hideaway to watch the sun go down over some cocktails.
For those that like to stay in shape on their holidays, there’s a fully equipped gym and personal trainers on call. You could try watersports such as surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding or snorkelling amongst the sea turtles. There are also gentler activities on offer, such as yoga on the beach or cooking classes. Then as if this wasn’t enough, Karma Kandara Bali also has an award winning Spa where you will be pampered by expert masseuse and reiki masters. We had the most amazing massage in their beachside Spa. However, you may also like to experience your treatment in their clifftop Spa. This is adjoined to a cute boutique if you feel like a spot of shopping too.
The last amenity at Karma Kandara Bali, that we must make mention of is the Beach club, situated on it’s own private beach below. The cable car down to the beach provides a perfect photo opportunity; That is, until you see the beach. This is the kind of beach you can spend a whole day on and not get bored. Make sure you get in quick with the day beds as they book out fast! The cute cabana restaurant on the beach offers yet another appetising menu. While there is beach volleyball, watersports, and a groovy DJ, playing chilled beach tunes that take you from day to night.
Karma Kandara Bali comprises 1-bed, 2-bed, 3-bed and 4-bed pool villas. They are all beautifully appointed and designed to architecturally fit into their natural surrounds with ease. This stunning resort is situated in amongst a monkey forrest, so seeing and hearing our furry friends is part of it’s unique charm. The staff are quite emphatic when explaining that you need to take all of your belongings inside and never leave doors open, in case you receive some unwanted visitors or furry thieves. We could hear them playing on our roof and scampering accross the balcony. One day we had an onlooker that decided to sit perched on the wall and watch us swim. We loved having the monkeys visit us, but I would suggest that if you are scared of monkeys at all, then perhaps this is not a resort for you to visit.
So as luxury resorts go, this one has made it to our top 3. The service, food, accommodations and location are a perfect 10 in our books. We will most definitely be back Karma Kandara Bali!
